Terms of service
Plain terms for a kitchen workspace that is still in beta. Use Scullery to cook and keep recipes, be decent to your household, and we will keep the service honest.
Last updated: 16 October 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and the operator of Scullery ("Scullery," "we," "us," or "our"), a recipe organizer and kitchen decision app at thescullery.app and my.thescullery.app (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
Scullery is in beta. Anyone can create an account, and the Service is still changing. Parts of these Terms describe how the beta works today, not a promise of how it will work at general availability. Scullery is an early-stage project run by its founder and is not yet operated through a registered company. When a legal entity is registered, we will name it here and update these Terms.
Who may use Scullery
You must be at least 16 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent where you live, if that is higher) to use Scullery. By using the Service you confirm that you meet this age requirement and that the information you give us when you create an account is accurate.
We may decline, pause, or revoke access during the beta at our discretion, including to manage capacity, protect the Service, or enforce these Terms.
Your account and household
You sign in with an email and password, or with Google if you choose. You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for activity that happens under your account. Tell us promptly at [email protected] if you think your account has been accessed without your permission.
Scullery is built around households. A household is a shared space where members can see and work with the same recipes (including those saved to try), ideas, shopping lists, and cooking history. If you invite people to your household or join someone else's, remember that members of a household can see the content saved in it. Invite only people you are happy to share that content with, and only invite people using an email address you are entitled to use. A household owner or admin can remove members, which removes their access to that household's content.
Acceptable use
Use Scullery to cook, plan, and keep recipes, and be decent to other people in your household. You agree not to:
Break the law, or use Scullery to store or share content that is illegal, infringing, or harmful. Upload other people's personal information without a proper basis. Try to access accounts, households, or data that are not yours. Probe, scan, or interfere with the Service, its security, or the cost controls described below. Use bots, scrapers, or automation to hit the Service or its endpoints beyond normal personal use. Resell, redistribute, or build a competing service out of Scullery's content or output. Submit URLs or content that you are not allowed to fetch, copy, or save.
We may suspend or remove content or accounts that break these rules. During the beta this is handled by our team rather than an automated appeals system.
Your content
You keep ownership of the content you add to Scullery. That includes the recipes you write or import, your kitchen notes and private instructions, ideas, shopping lists, cooking history, photos, and your household's taste preferences ("Your Content").
To run the Service for you, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, process, adapt, and display Your Content, and to share it with the household members you choose. This license exists so we can do things like store your recipes, show them to your household, generate a shopping list, and run the AI features described below. It also covers our service providers acting on our behalf (for example, the hosting and AI providers listed in our Privacy Policy). The license lasts as long as you keep the content in Scullery, and it ends for new uses when you delete the content or your account, except for copies kept for backups, security, or legal reasons, or where content has been shared into a household that continues to exist.
You are responsible for Your Content and confirm you have the right to add it and to grant the license above. We do not claim ownership of your recipes, and we do not sell Your Content.
When you share a recipe from Scullery, you send a link to its original page and a link to add it to Scullery, through the app you choose. You decide what you share and who you share it with, and you are responsible for doing so lawfully. Only share content you have the right to share.
Imported and third-party content
Scullery lets you save recipe ideas from places you already use: websites, pasted text, scanned cookbook pages, screenshots, photos, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. When you import from a link, our servers fetch the page you chose and keep source facts to help you cook from it later.
We treat third-party recipes as source-linked references and limit what appears publicly. Other kitchens may show a title, source link, ingredients, tags, and basic timing, but never the cooking method or step-by-step instructions. Review may inspect a method long enough to confirm that a source contains a usable recipe, but Scullery does not keep the source description or method in Other kitchens or review records. When you choose a link in Other kitchens, we try to retrieve the current method from the original source. If that is unavailable, you can open the source, paste the method yourself, or try again. Instructions you save stay private to your household. Public Other kitchens pages show a visible link to the original recipe when we have a source URL.
If you own rights in content that appears in Scullery and you believe it has been used without permission, you can ask us to take it down. Email [email protected] with the content or page, the original source, and enough detail for us to act. When we honor a takedown, the affected reference is removed from Other kitchens and search, and its promotional image stops being served. We keep a record of the source and the reason for our own audit.
AI features
Scullery uses AI to help with things like reading an imported recipe, tidying notes, classifying tags, checking images, summarizing a source, and generating the occasional image. These features send the relevant recipe text, source snippets, or images to our AI provider so they can be processed. See the Privacy Policy for who that is and what they receive.
AI output can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date. It depends on what the source makes available, so an imported draft may need finishing by hand. Always use your own judgment, especially for anything that affects health, allergies, dietary needs, or food safety. AI features are provided "as is," we do not guarantee their accuracy or that any particular feature will keep working, and you should not rely on them as professional advice. Scullery is a kitchen workspace, not a nutrition planner or a medical service.
Acceptable use, fair use, and rate limits
Some Scullery features rely on paid outside providers (AI processing and transactional email). To keep the Service sustainable and fair during the beta, this spend is governed by usage limits. These are per rolling time window, not per calendar day, and they can apply to you as an individual and to your household together. When more than one limit applies, the strictest one decides.
In practice, the limits cover things like importing and analyzing recipes, the "improve" or refine action on a recipe, image generation, and the emails we send for verification, password resets, and household invitations. They are sized for normal personal and household cooking, not bulk or automated use. There is no separate fixed "number of recipes per day" limit. How much you can import or save is shaped indirectly by these AI usage limits.
If you reach an interactive limit, you may see a temporary message asking you to try again shortly. When you import from a social source such as TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube and a limit is reached, Scullery can still keep what it captured as an idea you can finish by hand. Background work (such as auto-tagging or instruction polish) is simply skipped when a limit is reached, and your recipe still saves so you can finish it. These limits may change as we tune the beta. Trying to evade or game them is not permitted.
Beta disclaimers
Scullery is in beta and is provided "as is" and "as available." It may change, break, lose data, or be unavailable without notice. We may add, remove, or rework features at any time. We do not promise any particular uptime, performance, or result, and we do not make warranties of any kind to the extent the law allows us to disclaim them. You can request a data export or delete your account from the Settings page inside the app. We review export requests and email approved exports to the account address; you can also ask us to handle export or deletion by emailing [email protected], and we will action it as described in the Privacy Policy. Please keep your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Scullery and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, recipes, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Service. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim (which, during a free beta, is likely to be zero) or 50 US dollars. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Termination
You can stop using Scullery at any time. You can delete your account from the Settings page — it is deactivated immediately and permanently deleted after a 30-day grace period, during which you can restore it by signing back in. If a data export request is still active then, deletion waits until the request is resolved. You can also ask us to close it by emailing [email protected]. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms, if we need to protect the Service or other people, or if we wind down the beta. When access ends, the license you granted us continues only for backups, security, and legal reasons, and for content you shared into a household that still exists. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as your content ownership, the licenses, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law) continue after termination.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as Scullery grows out of beta. When we make a meaningful change, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where it matters, let you know in the app or by email. If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, where Scullery is operated, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The courts of the Netherlands will have jurisdiction over any dispute, unless the law where you live gives you a right to bring it elsewhere.
